The Girls Team Fit Club : Week One Summary
AOP is a group with a common purpose. We support each other and want to see every one of us succeed. Everyone. However, I’m going to take this moment to talk specifically about The Girls Team.
I hope my fellow Girls Team members forgive me for speaking about us as a group but I’m proud of what our team has accomplished this week. We’ve finally hit upon something that’s given us spirit. We’ve re-committed to the goal. We have a new drive that will take us to victory.
We started the Girls Fit Club this week. The idea is three days a week we get together at a different house and do workouts together. Originally the idea was to do the Wii Fit each time, but we expanded on that notion to include anything that’s exercise. Here’s what we did this week:
Monday - We did the Wii Fit workout and we were sore for days. But it was a good sore.
Wednesday - Amy & I tried out a bellydancing dvd. (Maureen could not attend due to a school function so she did her workout faithfully at home when she could.) To our surprise, the bellydancing was one heck of a workout! And an absolute trip in the process! We look forward to doing that one again.
Friday - We did a mini exercise circuit in my living using the treadmill, stationary bike and Wii bands for random arm exercises. We each spent ten minutes at each station, then switched until we’d done all three workouts. All the while we talked about whatever was on our minds. The minutes flew by and again...great workout!!!
I didn’t think I was going to like working out as a group. I really didn’t. I’m a solitary person. I like to be in my batcave with it’s diminished lighting, brooding metal music and various schemes for world domination carved into the walls. But I have to admit that working out with my team members has been a lot of fun! We’ve tried some different exercise programs and we’ve been surprised! It really is a lot of fun to workout together! I look forward to continuing this. I really do!
I know the Guys Team has started getting a team workout regime going at the Y. Unfortunately Drew has overbooked himself these first 2 weeks in February, but after the stageplay he’s working on ends next weekend we will be addressing the possibility of getting him to the Y too. (And me also.) He’s bawking for all the reasons everyone does --- Will I have the time? The money? The will-power? --- etc... But the encouragement and benefits you get from a group workout is so worth it. I always swore I’d rather do it alone. I was wrong. It didn’t work. Not for very long anyway. And granted, it’s only been a week, but instead of saying, “Oh crud. I gotta esercise today” I’m saying, “Yeah! We’re gonna get together tonight and sweat it out! Can’t wait!”
Meanwhile, on a personal note, I started Week 1 of the Couch-to-5K running plan this week.
I actually got up early on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings to do it. As my co-workers will tell you I am not a morning person. They take great pleasure in giving me the happiest “Good Morning!” they can muster just so I’ll growl at them. But I realize that my getting on the treadmill after work was not going to happen. I needed to do it in the morning and get it done for the day.
As additional incentive to get my miserable butt out of bed in the morning, I set up the TV to watching my fave show Top Gear while working out. Except on Sunday when I decided to watch the highly-recommended TV show Big Bang Theory. That show is insanely funny! In fact, it’s so funny I almost fell off the treadmill!
In addition, I played Lestyn’s C25K MP3’s with audio cues only to tell me when to run/walk so I wouldn’t have to pay attention to the clock.
I’m happy to report that I did it! I got up early and I completed Week 1. I feel pretty good right now too. No pain. I’m a little nervous about Week 2, but I’m going to get up early again this coming week and tackle it one morning at a time because I’ve finally done what I tell other people to do all the time...
Get a freakin’ grip and just do it!
And I am...dang it!

I suck at exercise, but I had fun with the group. I'm thinking I'm going to try getting up and doing my treadmill, and adding to the group workouts. Like Steph, I'm no morning person, so we'll see, but watching Lost has made it interesting. I have a goal and entertainment. It's great.
