Consult your physician
How many times have we heard that? Before beginning any weight loss and/or fitness regimen, check in with your doc. Yeah, yeah... OK. Who does that?
Well I was in today for a med check and broached the subject. I weighed 257 when I got on the scale at the office, just what mine says here, so that's good. Well, not the number, but that the scales agree. 257 is a good number if I were 7 feet tall. But anyway. I talked to the doctor and told her I was doing Weight Watchers. I asked what she would set my goal weight at and told her that WW says 147. She LAUGHED! OUT LOUD! She said she would be ecstatic if I got to 200, and I was thinking like, 160. So we agreed on 180, and she's writing it in a letter to have for WW. Goal weight is important because you get "Lifetime" status if you hit goal and maintain it. I am strictly online right now, so as I get close to my goal, I'll join meetings. The big bonus of Lifetime is as long as you maintain, WW is free.
So I now have a goal that makes me happier. I just turned 40 and haven't been 150 since high school. Realistically I don't think I'm ever going to see it again. I figured I could probably hit 160, so I'm still keeping that in my head. But for WW purposes my goal is now 180. I am 5'7" and a big boned gal (yes I know that usually means a heavy honey), so I knew 147 was unrealistic, but hearing my doctor laugh at that number kinda made my day. I want to be thin and healthy, not a stick and unhealthy. Plus I don't think that 147 helped my mental state about the whole thing. If I KNOW I'm not physically able to make that goal, I'm defeated before I start. My mindset really improved today after "consulting my physician". In all honesty, I've been thinking the unthinkable... quitting AOP. I didn't want to fail and let my team down, so I'd quit now and do it early. Amazing what a quick conversation will do to change the way things look.
I can, and will, succeed. I've got the girls to workout with, and a more realistic view of the goal.
