All summer long the children were around the house, doing the things that kids do on summer vacation.   EAT.  They eat anything!  My 15 year old daughter with the metabolism of gazelle can eat a dozen eggs at a sitting and still complain that she is hungry.  The 7 year old is convinced that when I tell him to go to his room I mean the pantry in the kitchen.  These kids eat!

Since their father and I have gone on a full scale attempt to lose weight and get fit, the kids have done their part.  They are trying to eat more vegetables and fewer chips.  It was great to see them eating so healthy.  Then it was time to go back to school…

We went grocery shopping to get them ready for lunches that they take.  We bought them the lunch meat they like, their favorite juice boxes and some crackers and chips to take.  And since both of them could be classified as underweight, I was willing to buy them the little handy snacks that they like to have.   WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!!

I am trying to lose weight and I bought 2 of the things that I struggle with the most, COOKIES AND BROWNIES.  They are in my house, in my cupboard, staring at me.  They call my name at night and whisper sweet nothings in my ear.  I want them.  I have day dreams of me going all Cookie Monster on the box of cosmic brownies.  I NEED DESSERTS!!!!

I decided that I would find something that I could eat that was low-calorie, chocolate and would help me get through this traumatic ordeal… Enter Sugar Free chocolate pudding.

It was ecstasy in a plastic tub. I was content.  The brownies were no longer calling me.   I was able to resist the beckoning.

When the brownies began their siren song for me again, I felt confident that I could go to the cupboard and get my little tub of delight and….

THEY ATE THEM, ALL OF THEM!

No pudding to be found.  And the damn brownies were still calling me.  I closed the door wrapped a pillow around my head and rocked back and forth gently until I was able to block the thought of chocolate over my tongue.

Ok, lessons learned:

1          I can control my cravings

2         There are other things to that you can eat to fight the cravings

3         When you buy things you don’t want to share with a house full of children…HIDE IT.
