Jason vs. The Back Spasms
"Back Spasm -
A spasm is a spontaneous, abnormal contraction of a muscle. When it occurs in the back near the spinal cord or the nerve roots, it can be very painful."
Jason vs. The Courage of Commitment
“Passion is the quickest to develop, and the quickest to fade. Intimacy develops more slowly, and commitment more gradually still.”
-Robert Sternberg (psychologist and psychometrician, author of the Triarchic Theory of Intelligence)
Jason vs. Steve -- You've Got the Touch
I haven't eaten well over the holidays. I've kept up with exercise, so I haven't gained back any weight, but I haven't really lost any either. Unfortunately, no one in our house has really been eating well, so it's been tough to stay true. Luckily, my lovely wife spent a good amount of time this past week reading about well-balanced eating and nutrition. Unfortunately, there seems to be one underlying constant among all the schemes and plans that she found.
Anticipation is a Dirty Word
For those of you that may be following my trip through this foggy swamp of weight loss and nutrition, you already know all about the Couch to 5k program. I've written about it quite a bit. From the excitement at first starting it and calling myself a 'runner' to my october-november illness, you've shared my highs and lows with the program.
Random musings about basketball, illnesses and goals
I feel good.
Finally. I feel good. I hope. No, hope is the wrong choice here. I pray. Pray that I am over the illness that wiped out the end of October and most of November for me. I have a renewed sense of purpose for this little project.
Now, I am being honest to myself as well. The Seneca Falls Run is less than 2 weeks off. I don't have time to train and be ready for it, realistically. So I'm looking for another 5k in the New Year's time frame.

Let's Review---The Ron Burgundy Awards
(and yes, this idea is completely ripped off from Bill Simmons)
It's almost time to renew the hosting on the website, so I've decided to have a little review of sorts of our first 3 months in existence. We've already had a lifetime of successes and failures as a group here, so lets have some highlights, set in the framework of some quotes from one of my favorite movies.
1. Ron Burgundy: You're so wise. You're like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair.
Jason vs. the Cold and/or Flu, Round 2
I sympathize with Wile E Coyote sometimes. Poor dude just wants some fried chicken. The machinations that unlucky fellow has to pursue just for some RoadRunner-flavored KFC are pretty extreme. I remember one time the dude had a lasso waiting in the road for the RoadRunner. As he was backing up, he realized that he was back off a cliff and was falling. As he fell, the lasso latched onto a rock on an outcropping. Thinking the outcropping could hold him, but miscalculating the length of the rope, he ties the other end of the lasso around his waist. Jason vs. The Cold and/or Flu
I had a great start to the weekend. I really did. Friday night I had to finish Week 2 of the Couch To 5k running program. I felt great after it. A good workout, 90 seconds of running followed by 2 minutes of brisk walking, repeating that for 25 minutes or so. I felt so good that I actually extended it by about 10 minutes. I pushed it a little too far, as I was pretty sore from it, but I still felt great. Quite a feat for a 332 pound 33 year old. I was
Let's Get Physical - Reprise
Well, I started the couch to 5k running plan back on Sunday. Tonight was my second night.
Let's Get Physical
Alot of my posting has been about eating. What to eat, how to eat, when to eat, etc. I feel, honestly, that I have that bit under control. I'm eating less at meals, only snacking about once a week, if that, and am making healthier choices about what to eat when I can.
My weight loss has slowed down some though. Honestly, this week, I've gained. So it's time to unbalance the equation again.
