How I am changing what I know to what I do.

I recently read a quote that really had me thinking.  "Happy people plan actions, they do not plan results".  I know where I want to be but I have to be realistic about it.  You don't go from the very bottom to the top with one leap.  People say keep your eye on the prize and keep looking to your goal, but when it comes to weight loss and health management sometimes this is insurmountable.  Sometimes it seems too far off.  What I have learned is that for me, I need to take the things I know and use them to make the actions that w

Lemon Pepper Tilapia

Since fish seems to be the theme lately, I figured I'd throw my hat into the culinary ring.

Tilapia is a small, white fleshed fresh water fish.  It is unfortunately low in the current health tread omega-3 fatty acids, but its small size and diet result in low mercury levels, which can be a concern among the fattier fish like salmon or swordfish.

Jason vs. Steve -- You've Got the Touch

I haven't eaten well over the holidays.  I've kept up with exercise, so I haven't gained back any weight, but I haven't really lost any either.  Unfortunately, no one in our house has really been eating well, so it's been tough to stay true.  Luckily, my lovely wife spent a good amount of time this past week reading about well-balanced eating and nutrition.  Unfortunately, there seems to be one underlying constant among all the schemes and plans that she found.

Changing What I Know to What I Do…

I know that I should have not eaten like I did in November/December.  I know that I should have tried harder to work out.  I know that I should be a better team member and I know that I should just be trying harder.

Hey! New Year!! I double-dog dare you!!!!

I screwed around on my diet and exercise regime pretty badly throughout December.  And most of November too, if I'm totally honest.  I don’t have a “good” reason for it.  Most everyone’s been sick.  Really really sick.  The kind of thing that makes best friends turn to each other and go, “Ew.  You’re gross.  Go away.”  I’ve been sick on and off but nothing that should have thrown me from my game this badly.

It's the food police! Put down the cookies!

So, I admit, I've fallen off the wagon lately.  Hell...I probably would have eaten the wagon, if it were made out of delicious food instead of wood.  I'm not *that* fat.  I've stopped walking, but thats really more of a function of the fact that it hasn't stopped snowing for more than 45 minutes in a week than a lack of desire to continue chasing that SOB Scott around downtown Auburn twice a day.

Kickass Guacamole

I made this up for the party.  Even with the bacon, I'd say it's pretty good for you.  Avocado is a great overall food.  About 75% of an avocado's calories come from fat, most of which is monounsaturated fat. Avocados also have 60% more potassium than bananas. They are rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin E and vitamin K. They have the highest fiber content of any fruit - including 75% insoluble and 25% soluble fiber.

Anyhow, on to to cookery.

New Years Resolutions

So, with 2010 here,  I guess it's time to refect on how I did in 2009...

First the bad news.  I started 2009 at 203 pounds, gained 6 in December alone and am now currently at 206 pounds, 3 of which I added in December.  I got two doctors opinions that stated that I should be at 175 pounds to be healthy.  For those of you that know me, that means me at about the size of a toothpick soaking wet.
